Home Alone

Creative direction, interior design, fabrication
Airbnb and Verb secured the original Home Alone house in Winnetka, then brought PBZ in to help turn it back into the McCallister home. Working alongside Verb’s creative team, we shaped the room plan and guest journey across the living room, dining room, hallway and bedroom, rebuilding the film’s most recognizable moments without altering the real house.

The interiors had changed considerably since 1990 with the majority of the movie being filmed on a sound stage, and no original props were available from production. We recreated the wallpaper patterns from scratch, sourced and styled period-correct furniture and props, laid removable stair carpet and built safer versions of Kevin’s traps, including Micro Machines beneath the window and paint cans hanging from the banister.

Everything had to leave no trace. Low-tack wall coverings, removable fixings and a restoration crew kept the original home protected throughout installation, photography and the overnight stay. PBZ handled installation, strike and restoration, returning the house to its owners once the McCallister moment was over.

The finished experience hosted four guests for one night, with Devin Ratray, who played Buzz McCallister, stepping in as host.
